Jodogahama & Ryusendo
Jodogahama (“Pure Land”) Beach with its jagged rocks and deep blue ocean water were badly impacted by the tsunami and tidal wave of March 11, 2011.
Sanno-iwa Rocks: Otoko-iwa, Onna-iwa and Taiko-iwa … to the North - were formed volcanically, and then sediments deposited onto the ocean floor were exposed to winds and waves to be carved out into their shapes today.
Ryusendo Cave is a limestone more than 2.5 miles long.
Hakodate (Hokkaido), Japan. Muroran - The Morning Market had 400 stalls, many featured "hairy crabs."
Goryokaku Park and Tower - Japan's first Western-style fort. Goryokaku, ("pentagon fort"), is star shaped. The elevator takes you up 350 feet for a spectacular view.
Mount Hakodate overlook or "Hakodateyama" has a ropeway cablecar 1,200 feet to the observatory.
Muroran and Shikotsu - Toya National Park & Lske Toya. ("Rim of Fire"). The large caldera was formed by a volcanic eruption over 100 thousand years ago. Punt USO is Japan's most active volcano, having erupted in 1910, 1944, 1977 and 2000.
Kushiro - Marshland - The Crane Reserve is home to six hundred plant species and the Japanese red-crested crane.
