The Japanese covered bridge, built in the former Japanese quarter in the early seventeenth century is the symbol of Hoi An. In the 16th and 17th centuries, Hoi An was the international trading center in Southern Vietnam catering to the Dutch, Indian, Chinese and Japanese merchants, each establishing their own quarters within the city. |
