Pack of Wild African Dogs

African Wild Dog, (Lycaon Pictus). The African wild dog is both rare and endangered and can only be found in wildlife reserves. This slender, long-legged carnivore has extremely large ears with a blotched dark brown, white and fawn coat, resembling leopard markings. The African wild dog is highly sociable, living in packs of between 6 and 15 adults plus youngsters with one dominant ‘alpha’ pair. They live in a den, usually found in old termite mounds. Their pups are born in the winter. They are active by day, running down prey, (mostly impala and young antelope) after a chase.

Kruger is one of the best national reserves to view the African wild dog.
