Antarctic Icebergs

Icebergs or “ice mountains” remain 7/8th below the surface with 93% of the world’s icebergs located in Antarctica.

If Antarctica were to melt, the sea level would rise over 60 meters.

Floating ice shelves constitute 11% of the area of the continent of Antarctica.

Icebergs from glacial ice can be more than 15,000 years old.

In 1987, an iceberg with an area the size of Rhode Island broke from the Ross ice-shelf in Antarctica
and could have supplied everyone in the world with 240 tons of pure drinking water.
